Little Victories Volunteer Opportunities!!

Please carefully read through all of the opportunities before filling out the online application.

If you would like to voluneer and assist with any of the following needs, then fill out our online volunteer application by clicking HERE!

Shelter Workers***** (Very Important – needed immediately!)

We need people to work from 10 till 1:30 and 1:30 till 5 every day except Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday we need someone from 10 till 12. Sunday we will be closed.

Foster Parents

Foster parents are very important. Taking home and caring for an animal frees up space for other animals to be rescued.

It also is very important for animals that are very small, ill, or fragile and just need to be cared for in a home.

Ladies Tea and Biscuit Society

This group needs a leader and volunteers. They will meet monthly and the function of this group is to put on benefit events to raise the money for projects at the land. This group will function much as a Ladies Auxiliary functions for other groups or institutions. We think this will be fun opportunity and one which will take a large workload off the volunteers who are working directly with the day to day functions of our group.

Committees:

Fundraising committee

It cannot stressed enough how important this committee is. All of our funds come either from private or corporate donations or from fundraising. The funds from this committee pay our vet bills, expenses, phone bill, etc. Without this committee, we could not function as a rescue group.

This committee plans and carries out events. We need people who are creative and/or who are just simply very hard working people.

Land/Facilities Committee

This committee deals with planning the future development of our farm. They are working with land use, the kinds of buildings we need to build and the schedule for building. They are also concerned with the maintenance of our current facilities.

Adoption committee

The adoption committee works on medical policy, does home visits, checks adoption applications, keeps records, and does other activities related to the animals and their adoptions.

Medical committee

We need a medical committee to formulate medical policy, make decisions on the health of animals, and do other things relating to medical care.

Walk Committee

This committee plans and carries out the Walk and Wag in Ritter Park each year. (We have this event in conjunction with Help for Animals.)

Public Relations Committee

This committee deals with creating the newsletter, brochures, flyers, etc. We need creative people with good design or writing skills to contribute to this committee. The website is also an important way to present our “face” to the public and requires several people. Other duties include writing press releases, contacting news stations, etc.

Capital Campaign and Grant Committee

This committee deals with development and grant writing.

Membership committee.

Social committee.

General Volunteer Opportunities:

Photographers

We need people who can take digital pictures of events or dogs (to be used for web site, ads, etc.)

Email Inquiries

This is to assist in answering emails that come into Little Victories. (May be done from home)

Help With The Web Site

We need people to help with uploding pictures, files, stories, and pictures to Petfinder, and to help come up with ideas for the site. (May be done from home)

Research

People interested in researching information on laws, shelter planning, health and safety laws, etc. (May be done from home)

Historian

Someone who can maintain a scapbooks and/or a computer scrapbook about all the Little Victories events.

Table Sitting

People to sit at tables at events to pass out flyers and other information, and to take donations.

Jar Collector

To put out jars at local businesses and vets and then collect the jars on a regular basis.

Volunteer Coordinator****** (Very important – needed immediately!)

We need one or two people to co-chair the committee on volunteers. This would involve training, keeping a database, working with people, etc. This is a very important position and is needed immediately!

Event/Program Coordinator

This person would organize or oversee a single event such as a dinner or an ongoing function such as the bingo games every three months, or the Elder Beerman and Macy’s events which occur twice a year. It could also be an educational event, an adoption, etc.

Assistant Event/Program Coordinator

Phone Representative

This person would be responsible for answering phone messages within a designated 24 hour time frame. The volunteer would also keep accurate records of the calls and follow up as necessary. This could be done in the person’s home.

Work Day Volunteers

Work days are designated days when volunteer come to the land to work on cleaning kennels, mowing, painting, and other duties necessary to maintain our land and buildings.

Should you wish to volunteer extra days, we always need help feeding the dogs, pooper-scooping, and doing other duties to maintain the kennel area.

Drivers

We need drivers for several types of tasks:

  • To take animals to the vet or groomer, pick up material, and run errands.
  • To haul materials and rummage, and to pick up donations.
  • Transporting animals longer distances to/from other rescues in different states. (Eash person drives one leg of this journey)

Socializing the Animals

People are needed all the time to work with the animals—socializing the puppies; teaching dogs to walk on leash; helping shy dogs overcome their shyness; and generally providing companionship for the animals.

Liasons

If you have belonged to a group, a club, a school, business, etc., with which Little Victories would like to establish ties, perhaps you could be a liason and help to facilitate this. Because you know about that group, you know who to speak with and you know if they would be interested in doing a project with us, helping to fundraise, etc.

Jobs

Many times we just need people to call on for help. We never know when we will need people to attend an adoption, help on a job, or just to be there in an emergency.

Thrift Store ***** (Very Important – needed immediately)

Little Victories is opening a Thrift Store. We need people to pick up rummage, price it and/or clean it, and we also need people to work in the store on Tuesdays in shifts from 10 till 5.

Maintaining Data Bases

We need people to maintain data bases for different functions. You can do this from your home!

Miscellaneous

We have many other jobs such as helping to take photos, doing table sitting, cleaning, etc. Please help!

I recently helped with my first fundraising event at Frankie D's on August 22 2009 and was really pleased and impressed by the volunteers who showed up to help along with the show of support from the people who showed up to support Little Victories by purchasing breakfast. And all for such a great cause. I look forward to many more events to help with. After all, the Little Ones deserve it! Keep up the good work Little Victories!

My name is Kaitlin Barrett. I am 15 years old and very good with dog socialization and training. I would love to work with the public relations committee and with animal socialization. My cat, Sam, was just put down a few weeks ago and I would love to be able to fill some of that hole by working with shelter animals. I will be contacting you shortly. Thanks!

I have been looking for a good cause to volunteer for, and I must say I couldn't think of anything better!
I am an avid animal lover, I have two cats (Cuca/15, and Tommy/14) and they mean the world to me.
You will definitely be hearing from me very soon! I commend you on your efforts and devotion to saving all
abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats!
