The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.  There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.  There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health andvigor.  Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.  The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;  they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.  His bright eyes are intent.  His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.  The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

Malaki

MalakiUPDATE:  Malaki lost his battle with his illness in October 2012.  A wonderful volunteer, Chantra, make his last year and a half full of  comfort and love. She took him into her own home and gave him a beautiful life.   You can read about his story below.

Malaki came to Little Victories late last summer. He was in terrible shape...his joints swollen with what we learned was lyme disease, He could hardly walk and literally crawled to get to his food. He trembled when he stood up.  His stomach was swollen and we later found he had congestive heart failure--the vet took several liters of fluids from his distended belly.  He was thin, ragged with hair loss, and literally had to crawl to get to his food or water.

Malaki was taken to the vet for x-rays and an ultra sound. Fluid was drained from his stomach. He was given many medicines, including antibiotics for lyme disease and skin infections. He was given his vaccines. So much more was done.

He was taken into the home of a wonderful volunteer, Chantra, who took him to the vet for his tests, x-rays, and all of his medical. She took him into her home and her heart and nursed him back to health. The change in this boy is amazing and Chantra has recorded many pictures of him. She also recorded him in October of last year and then updated his progress this spring (March) on video. The change in him is astounding. And, more important, he looks happy and hopeful and well loved. In one picture, he is even grinning.

Little Victories has many stories like this--some of them take months to heal. We need your donations to help these long term furry babies. Please go online and donate by PayPal or send donations to Little Victories, PO Box 247, Barboursville, WV 25504. Help us save dogs and cats like Malaki.

Even if you can't donate, please enjoy this wonderful video of our boy ....it will warm your heart!

maddieMaddie, my sweet, gorgeous, wonderful, smart and   crazy madcap.  You were there for me in good and bad times.    I tried so hard to save you those last two months. You were not with   me long enough.  Letting you go was the hardest thing I have   ever had to do.  I will meet up with you   again at the Rainbow Bridge when it is time for us to enter Heaven.  You   are my heart and I will love you and miss your   forever.

Marco

marcoMarco's Mom (Miranda) sent this touching e-mail to us about her beloved Marco. I had to make the hardest decision of my life yesterday and have Marco put to sleep. :( His cancer had been affecting his mobility and early last week he started passing blood. I guess the cancer was just making its way through his system. I have cried and cried for days not wanting to let go of him. He was genuinely the best dog I've ever had. I stayed in the room with him and held him while they put him to sleep and you could just see the relief pass through him that he wasn't in pain anymore. I'm sending a couple pictures of him that were taken yesterday morning and in the past couple of weeks. I cannot thank you enough for letting me know him and be a part of his life, I have never loved a dog more. My home is so empty without him now, I just keep waiting to see him walk down the hall. :(

Miranda loved Marco very very much and he had the best life he was able to endure with her.
